Experience the third space that creates and inspires social interactions between people
AROUND THE PLAY-SCAPE
DESIGNED FOR COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES
Bringing back deprived social interactions caused by rapid technological advancement with fun and games and creating a space to spend time with friends.

SHARING THE SPACE
Technological advancements are our main source of communication, especially in time of social isolation. We look at our phones for hours without the urge to look up to communicate with the world around us. The Playscape is a space which encourages people to get to know each other in community events, activities and social spaces for people to enjoy and share. The Playscape is a social space experience with the goal of increasing connection between people.

THE PLAY-SCAPE
PLAY-SCAPE LAYOUT MAP
The space is designed as a journey—beginning in isolation and gradually guiding visitors through experiences of connection and togetherness.

ENTERING THE SPACE
This semi-isolated space evokes solitude—quiet, still, and echoing with soft chimes, like a vast, empty cavern. Motion-sensor lights glow with presence, then fade, leaving only a trace—like a memory.
Suddenly, the mood shifts. A burst of crowd noise and blacked-out lights recreate the feeling of being alone in a crowd—overwhelmed, unheard, and unseen.

MOBILE EVENT SPACE
From the entry level, guests preview the stage; the integrated app lists events and karaoke queues, and mobile benches reconfigure for any show.
Guests glimpse performances, games, and a live bulletin wall of shared posts. Light orbs throughout the space invite curiosity—tap with your phone to claim them for your team in a color-changing game

UNWINDING GAME LOUNGE
Set in a repurposed industrial space, raw textures create a grounded, refined atmosphere. Guests can lounge on tiered steps with beanbags and play multiplayer games. A tree and photo wall add warmth, making this a relaxed, social spot to unwind.

THE ACTIVE PLAY SPACE
This retro-inspired zone is made for movement and fun. Unlike other spaces, it encourages guests to explore, play, and interact. Features include a couched ball pit, mega console game, swing set, photo arch, Light Tap game, 5-player air hockey, and more.
The Broadcast Room runs a live radio show by day and transforms into a DJ booth at night, with mobile audience seating—including giant dice used on game panels. The Sharing Globe invites guests to share where they’re from and where they’re headed, sparking connection. With games designed for laughter and interaction, this space is all about active play and bonding.

MORNING CAFÉ, NIGHT BAR
The only part of the exhibition visible from outside, this space features an elevated communal table that invites conversation. By day, it’s a cozy café with books and board games; by night, it transforms into a lively bar. Large windows bring in natural light and offer a glimpse into the shared experiences inside. A service counter, movable table, and wall shelves encourage both interaction and memory-making.

WORKSHOP SPACE
With red walls and easy-to-clean tiled floors, this space is designed for hands-on activities. Movable tables and dark wood counters support creative work, while curtains offer privacy when needed.
Workshops—like cooking, DIY, and crafts—encourage social interaction through making and sharing. Guests can host their own events, showcase skills, and even sell or gift their creations in the store, turning the space into a hub for creativity and self-promotion.

GIFT STORE
The gift store sells souvenirs, exhibition merchandise, and items made in the workshop. It also functions as an information center and features a dedicated section for local creatives. Located by the only official exit, the store is the last stop before leaving and one of the first before exploring the space. Open and connected to the workshop across from it, the calming blue interior helps make the narrow room feel larger and more inviting.

DESIGNED PERSONAS
Three personas were developed to represent different user types and guide design decisions. The illustrated storyboards show how each might engage with the space—transitioning from boredom or solitude to playful, social interaction through features like tap-to-join games and shared activities. These narratives helped shape a space centered on connection, curiosity, and community.
