BEELong Hive
mutual aid design
The goal of the project was to create a beehive that aimed to allow mutual aid between human and bees. Bees are essential pollinators to any ecosystem, and honey bees allow for the production of honey for human use. A secondary goal was for the hive to be situated within the context of the Hattie Carthan community garden, a community garden that profits for the community and allows the community to come together. Goal being that the beehive allows for mutual aid, a honeycomb product packaging was created alongside the hive.
The hive was made with bees in mind, it was made to allow a dark insulated space for the bee's to nest in. The hive has 2 layers within the hive, one that homes the brood, where the queen lies, and the second layer that allows the beekeeper to take honey from. The hive features keys that work for the entire hive.
